Interview with Inspirational Author @GabbyBernstein on #MayCauseMiracles

Having the right mindset is critical to success.  We know this for sure.  If you don’t believe in yourself and the value that you bring to the world, it will be virtually impossible for you to get out of your own way.  However, there are small adjustments that you can make in your thinking and in your daily routine that will greatly increase your chances of having a mindset that cultivates fertile ground for success.

In the beginning of each year, many people decide that they are going to make resolutions to change their lives and make them better.  If there is one thing that you can do to set yourself up for success this year, it is to create a plan that allows you to believe in the miracles that are waiting for you to experience them.

Below, you will be inspired by an interview with New York Times bestselling author, Gabrielle Bernstein.  She is someone who inspires me greatly and I am honored to share her wisdom with you. (Please click that link and watch an awesome interview with Gabby and Danielle LaPorte!)  If you are motivated to read this book, join me for the 40 day #MayCauseMiracles journey as we begin reading the book on Monday, January 7.  Even if you don’t start the same day as I do, feel free to join in the process and share your thoughts in the comments below and on Twitter. Enjoy!

What inspired you to write May Cause Miracles?

I write my books based on what my readers need and want. I was hearing the call from my readers that they wanted a real-deal spiritual plan for dissolving all boundaries and fear. In effect, they wanted to be told exactly how to do it. It was time for me to offer a step-by-step guidebook to help readers release their negativity, achieve more happiness, and experience a greater connection to the universe. It was time.

May Cause Miracles spawned from my own spiritual practice. I begin each day with prayer and meditation. Throughout the day I use affirmations and positive intentions to move through blocks, and each evening I close the day with self-reflection and an inventory of my growth throughout the day. These three steps are offered in each day of this 40-day course.

I believe that simple, consistent shifts in our thinking and actions can lead to the miraculous in all aspects of our daily lives, including our relationships, finances, bodies, and self-image. In my new book, May Cause Miracles, I offer an exciting plan for releasing fear and allowing gratitude, forgiveness, and love to flow through us without fail. All of which, ultimately, will lead to breathtaking lives of abundance, acceptance, appreciation, and happiness. With May Cause Miracles, readers can expect incredible transformation in 40 powerful days, simply by adding up subtle shifts to create miraculous change.

What can people expect from this 40-day guidebook?

The payoff for sticking to the principles of A Course in Miracles, which is my guiding text, is that the more you choose forgiveness, gratitude and love, the more miracles you experience. If you’re wondering what I mean by “miracle,” it’s simple: a miracle is a shift in perspective from fear to love. A miracle can be the moment you choose to forgive your ex-lover and let go of decades of resentment, or the moment you recognize that losing your job was not a tragedy but an opportunity to follow your true calling. Simply put, each moment you choose love over fear is a miracle. And the more miracles you add up, the less likely you are to perceive life through dark-colored lenses. When you choose to perceive love over fear, life begins to flow. You feel peaceful and you see love in all situations. Your hang-ups subside and your life feels guided.

My dedication to living this way has changed every area of my life. I’ve let go of addictions to romance, drugs, work, food—you name it. I’ve learned to choose forgiveness whenever resentment creeps into my mind. Fear of financial insecurity has lifted and my internal abundance, my zest for living a love-guided life, is reflected in external abundance. Today I see obstacles as opportunities and know that the universe has my back. Most important, I feel a sense of certainty that there is a power greater than myself supporting my every move.

Tell us about the 40-day program. Why was it important to give people a plan?

Like any effective practice, true transformation occurs with daily repetition. Begin with a 40-day commitment and start experiencing positive results immediately. Why 40 days? Metaphysicians and yogis place much emphasis on the repetition of a 40-day practice. Mythical examples range from Moses’s 40 days and 40 nights spent on Mount Sinai to the story of the Buddha reaching enlightenment on the full moon in May after meditating and fasting under the Bodhi tree for 40 days. The number has scientific significance, too: research has shown that after repeating a new pattern for 40 days, you can change the neural pathways in your brain to create long-lasting change. So let’s take a cue from the mystics and the scientists and commit to this 40-day fear cleanse. It’s the simple, consistent shifts that count when you’re making change—so I’ve outlined this journey to be fun and achievable. I will guide you to keep it uncomplicated and stay on track. And one day at a time you’ll become a miracle worker.

By choosing to follow this plan for the next 40 days, you’ll begin to reprogram your thoughts from fear back to love. If you dig the results, stick to the path and commit to a life as a miracle worker.

How can this book help people make their resolutions stick?

The daily repetition of this course will help you make change stick. Creating positive permanent change is simple: it comes from willingness and the repetition of new ideas. That’s what May Cause Miracles offers, along with structure and guidance.

Most readers come to this kind of work with different types of blocks. How does this book serve everyone?

The really cool thing about May Cause Miracles is that readers can apply the plan to every corner of their lives. The book is divided into six chapters, one for each week. The weekly chapters contain exercises for each day of the week to transform your thoughts back to love. Each week focuses on a different area of your life:

Week One. This week guides you to identify how fear has tripped you up and blocked your life’s flow. I’ll lay the groundwork and guide you to embrace the key principles: witnessing your fear, willingness to change, shifts in perception, gratitude, forgiveness and miracles.

Week Two. This week is all about the importance of self-love. You’ll be guided to strengthen your relationship with yourself, and you’ll become willing to release old patterns of self-attack. Self-love is super crucial to the miracle worker practice.

Week Three. I’ll guide you to focus on how fear has blocked your financial abundance. This week’s exercises activate gratitude for your current workplace, help you address your financial fears and guide you to shift your limiting belief system around money and work. This week is applicable to any type of work, whether you’re a freelancer, a stay-at-home mom, a philanthropist, a banker, a salesperson, and so on. Just apply the principles to whatever work you do.

Week Four. Romance is in the air! I’ll help you get honest about how fear has held you back from romantic bliss. This week incorporates many of the Course’s rockin’ teachings for releasing fear in romance. These powerful tools will lead you to experience immediate internal shifts around romance, whether you’re single or attached.

Week Five. I’ll give you practical exercises that shift your patterns of self-sabotage when it comes to food and your body. I will guide you to identify the root cause of your food and body issues and begin to shine light on any darkness in this area of your life. You’ll quickly come to realize that ingesting loving thoughts greatly enhances how you ingest your food and perceive your body.

Week Six. You’ll learn to embrace the practice of being a miracle worker in the world. This week helps you shift your focus off yourself and on to your power to create energetic change in the world around you. Service is a key principle in A Course in Miracles and is strongly emphasized this week. You’ll come to realize that serving the world is like serving yourself a big, heaping plate of love. When you focus your thoughts and energy lovingly onto others your heart opens and your true purpose shines bright.
There’s a meditation album that accompanies this book. Can you talk a bit about the importance of meditation and how it will help us create radical change?

Each week of the book is loaded with guided meditations. To accompany the written meditations in the book I created a meditation album with incredible original music. The 11-track album offers readers a deeper opportunity to heighten their spirit and center into a space of peace. In addition to calming your mind and relaxing your body, meditation offers people an opportunity to work through old fears and to cut cords with negative attachments. Most of my greatest emotional healing has occurred on the meditation pillow, and it is my mission to help others find that same miracle.

For free guided meditations and to check out the May Cause Miracles album, click here.

Who or what inspires you most?

The people who inspire me most are those who are willing to see the world from a loving perspective. People who perceive obstacles as opportunities and problems as spiritual assignments. People who choose love.

Why do you do what you do?

I’ve worked very hard to transform my fearful delusions into loving beliefs and I am committed to maintaining this way of being. How dare I have the tools for finding serenity and not share them with the world? I believe it is my duty to share these gifts I’ve learned.

How did you get started on your Spirit Junkie journey?

I got started on my Spirit Junkie journey when I was a kid. My mom taught me how to meditate and brought me to ashrams and spiritual circles. Then I turned my back on spirituality for several years. When I was 25, I hit a big bottom and had no other choice but to turn back to my spiritual roots for help. I did just that. Since 2005, I have been on a steadfast journey inward as a self-proclaimed Spirit Junkie. And I’ve never looked back.

How You Can Help #HurricaneSandy Recovery Efforts – Guest Post by @JessicaNorthey

“Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.

- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Join +Britt Michaelian and me +Jessica Northey as well as some others for a LIVE video chat/hangout to talk about how you can help with relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

I was in Nashville all week covering the CMA Awards and a bit out of pocket. I talked to Britt today and we both shared some tears and then, because Britt is always in solution mode, she went straight to, “what can we do to help?”   We decided to pool our resources as well as put our brands, and brains together.   Britt, the kindest person on this planet has an amazing list of very actionable things people can do to help, and has been contacting other brands and talking to our friends who are affected by Hurricane Sandy to see what we can do to immediately help.  When we start LIVE STREAMING I will post here, as well as at CMchatLIVE.com and on Britt’s blog.

The goal is to remind everyone what our friends are going through and inspire others to do something to help. As I said, I was in Nashville all week working, and while speaking with others I realized that while people know something really bad happened, because of all election coverage, and even entertainment options, there are SO MANY PEOPLE who have no idea of the intense devastation that spans all the way from Haiti to New York.

One of my friends on Google Plus, New York Photographer Jason Joseph has been keeping really great information of how you can help.  I think also one of the biggest things is that we DON’T stop talking about it, reshare info and support businesses who are supporting recovery efforts.

Hugs to Britt for doing what she does best: giving back, and reminding me that I am blessed to be her friend.

If you aren’t able to personally provide shelter and supplies to those affected by Hurricane Sandy, it doesn’t mean you can’t help at all. Social A-Game Part 5: Giving Back #SocialAgame

One of the most important aspects of leadership is the concept of giving back.  This is a core principle of bringing your Social A-Game to your life.  It is a gift that you give to yourself and to the world.  When we lead by example, the results of giving back will be experienced by the community exponentially. So, creating a system that makes giving back a part of your lifestyle business is essential to operating at your peek performance.

The beauty of giving to others is that it can make the world a better place online, offline, in prayer or meditation or simply by sharing your smile.

When we are playing our A-Game, we are bringing the best of us to every social interaction. We inspire others with our actions and live with integrity while sharing inspiration to live our best life with those who we engage with.  By giving back to others, we send a message to others and to the world around us that we do not take a thing for granted and that we are sincere in our words of gratitude.

Some people believe that they give back by being a good parent or friend, others believe that community service is essential if you want to truly give back to the world.  Personally, I see it as a combination of both.  When we choose to give of our time, energy and money to others regardless of whether they are our children or our neighbors, we are making the world a better place.  In addition, when we choose a cause and help to spread the word about giving to our audience, the seeds of our giving are limitless.

Do you have a cause that you actively support online and off?  Do you share the message of this cause on social media?  Have you participated in a race or an event in order to raise money and awareness for cancer, autism or a country in need? Did you document your participation in this event on social media to help spread awareness of the cause?

Do you donate a portion of your income to charity or sit on a board to help a charity raise money?  How can you give back and how do you see your giving back as playing a part in your Social A-Game?

Please share your thoughts, ideas and questions in the comments.  Thanks!

Social Good System: Networking As a Way to Give Back #worksmart

so·cial/ˈsōSHəl/

Adjective:
Of or relating to society or its organization

good/go͝od/

Noun:       That which is morally right; righteousness.

Adjective:
To be desired or approved of.

so·cial/good/

“A good or service that benefits the largest number of people in the largest possible way. Some classic examples of social goods are clean air, clean water and literacy; in addition, many economic proponents include access to services such as healthcare in their definition of the social or “common good”.”

Running a business is demanding on your time and energy and sometimes it may feel like you don’t have a life, much less time to give back.  Is it wrong to focus on growing a business and making money when there are people in this world who don’t even have a bed to sleep in?  Do we have to give money in order to help others?  Will giving to others take time away from you pursuing your passion, your dreams, your life purpose?

No.

No.

And no.

By adding a system of social good to your business, you will give back to others in your community and in the world, online and off and your business will benefit as well. Some call this the triple bottom line, I call it AWESOME!

Social media is the perfect way to do exactly what this definition of social good suggests, “benefits the largest number of people in the largest possible way“.  When you seek to help, support and connect with others on social media, you can reach people around the world and impact their lives by inspiring, empowering and encouraging them.  But, this cannot be pursued as a selfish act, only to increase your brand awareness or provide a PR opportunity.  It has to come from the kindness of your heart or you could risk losing that “trust” factor that you are working so hard to build.

So, let’s make a Social Good System for your business… Shall we?

Step 1: Choose a charity or cause that is near and dear to your heart to support publicly.  If this cause does not directly relate to your target audience, that is fine.  You can add a link to your About page or add a hashtag to your Twitter bio.  This simple action alone will have a positive impact.  Simply choose a cause and decide to promote it in a way that organically fits with your current social media editorial calendar.

Step 2: Giving back in the form of social good can in fact be automated.  (Yay!) Isn’t that the best thing you’ve heard all day? ;) Consider adding a donation button in the sidebar of your blog to help raise money for your favorite charity.  This simple action will spread awareness in the world and show that you care about helping others.  You can promote this same cause in a vlog post that you share on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and YouTube and explain why this cause matters to you.  Bonus: when you share this type of information, it makes you become more “real” to your audience and helps build the “Know” factor.

Step 3: Calendar and set reminders to write a monthly blog post, weekly social updates and share content from your chosen charity/cause.  When you get a reminder to perform (or outsource to another member of your team) these simple, but powerful actions, you are much more likely to follow through with them.  So, this leads us to our final step…

Step 4: Commit to making social good a part of your brand.  It’s not just about manipulating your audience to THINK that you are a good person to do business with.  BE a good person to do business with because you ARE a good person and because you do good for others.  It’s as simple as that.

Final thought: Whenever you are having a problem getting were you want to go in life or in business, try shifting your focus to helping someone else get what they want.  Creating systems to make sure that the client experience for your business is extraordinary and memorable is important.  Making money through your business is important.  But, being a good person who makes the world a better place is more important.

Do you have any thoughts or ideas about how to incorporate social good into your business?  Please share them in the comments below.  Thank you so much!

More Self Care Tips for Parent Entrepreneurs with @MiaRedrick #worksmart

Running a business and raising a family requires a tremendous amount of attention and energy that many entrepreneurs find difficult to maintain.  Is it challenging to get to the gym, impossible to start the day with meditation, or too much of a burden to stick to your weekly date night?  Why do you think that is?

Truth be told, if you want to live a life that you love, raising the bar on your self care is essential.  It’s a choice that you will never regret making.  Ignore your self, your relationships, your health and/or your family and you will most certainly see a negative impact on your business.  If you choose to focus on your professional pursuits at the expense of your personal life, you may find that “success” is a very lonely road.

When you think about your life and your business, what is most important to you?

Your loved ones?

The quality of time that you spend with them?

Or the money and qualifications that you acquire as an entrepreneur?

One of the secrets of keeping your energy and attitude up, while having a healthy relationship with the pursuit of your dreams is being conscious of taking care of your self.

I recently wrote a post about self care as a business system that can make or break your business and in the video above, my friend, Huffington Post contributor Mia Redrick shares a few more tips for moms and lifestyle entrepreneurs.  Her mother gave her the gift of self care awareness and now she is sharing this message with us.  She also gives a sneak peak of her awesome new 365 Daily Strategies for Self Care program for moms.  (This is an affiliate link, so to be transparent, if you purchase her program, I will be compensated)

Do you believe that making a commitment to self care adds to or takes away from your business?  What tips can you offer to help those who are looking to take self care to the next level in their lives?  Please leave your thoughts in the comments below and thank you for your support!

The One System That Can Make or Break Your Business and Life #worksmart

It’s Friday and you are frantically working to make sure your clients are happy, your goals and deadlines are met, the product is finished… the job gets done.  You are so intent on pushing ahead with the task at hand that you are completely in your head while your body (or your spouse for that matter) may as well not exist. You accomplish the task at hand, but at what expense?

Many entrepreneurs are so driven by their passion for their work that they neglect the most important aspect of their business during this rush of productivity… the SELF.  Big mistake!

We’ve all been there, so focused on completing a task that we forget to eat, exercise or sleep, we get short with our spouse, our children and our team members and before we know it, we feel completely stressed, our loved ones are hurt and the fun and passion of our vision has turned into stress and overwhelm. Is this what the life of an entrepreneur is all about?  Only if you CHOOSE it.

No matter how busy you are, if you do not pay attention to your own health and fitness, your relationships with your self and others, your mindset, your personal growth and goals – your SELF, it shows up in undesirable ways in your business and life and can negatively impact the results you get along the road to reaching for your dreams.

Life is about being happy.  So, create a life that makes you happy by taking charge of every minute of every day.

If you analyze some of the most successful people in business, you will notice that they make meditation, fitness, time with family and loved ones, personal growth and positivity a priority above all else.

What’s the solution if you are already wrapped up in a bundle of stress, haven’t been to the gym in 3 years and your husband left you 2 weeks ago?

Create a system for Self Care.  NOW.

In order to make sure that time doesn’t get away from you and that your body doesn’t give out, create a schedule where you work around a highly designed system of self care.

Write a list of all of the things you are committed to do to take care of yourself.  Then, plug those into your calendar.  These are non-negotiable actions that you must commit to and then plan the rest of your tasks around these items.

Your Self Care is the foundation for your success.

Examples of self care:

  • prayer
  • meditation
  • yoga
  • exercise
  • personal hygiene
  • personal growth reading
  • time in nature
  • dates with yourself, your partner and your children
  • time with loved ones (where you are unplugged and fully present)
  • annual physical
  • 6 month dental cleaning and exam
  • annual skin check with dermatologist (more frequent if you have any skin cancer)
  • personal grooming (hair cut/color, nails, waxing, facials, whatever you do to maintain your appearance so you feel confident)
  • vacations
  • retreats
  • workshops
  • learning new skills or languages
  • time to play
  • time with friends (who share your values – NO toxic friends allowed)

Choose some of these items and schedule them into your calendar at the same time each day.  Start with 1-3 items per day and increase as needed (decreasing is not an option).  Set reminders and alerts so you remember to actually follow through.  If you set a Personal Care Day once every 6 months, this is the day that you will want to schedule your doctor and dentist appointments and maybe even get your hair cut or colored.

Think of this process as a strategic system for your business.  If you neglect your self, you will not be operating at your optimal level and you will set yourself up for preventable stress.

Make the choice to make Self Care a priority so you can be happy in your life and you can role model this for your kids, your team and anyone else who looks up to you.  If you make it a group movement, you can support each other in this effort and really make a positive change on the world.

You in?  Leave your thoughts in the comments!

How to Create Social Videos That Get Shared

We all know that Google is the #1 search engine online, but did you know that YouTube is the 2nd place people go to when they are looking for information online?  Yup, it’s true, YouTube is the #2 search engine right now.  So, if you are looking to build a strong digital presence for your business or your career, you need to be making videos.

In the video above, I share some tips for making videos that will get shared on social networks, but again it brings us back to why you are making these videos in the first place.  What is your message?  Who is your audience?  How will this message benefit your audience?  Why would they want to share the information you are presenting with others?  Why would they want to engage in a conversation with you about this information?

Now, the truth of the matter is that there is a tremendous amount of content being produced and shared daily on social networks, so no matter how great the information is that you are sharing, not every video you make – no matter how well done it is – will get a million views.  In fact, many of the videos you make will be lucky to reach 100 views.  This is why it is important to consistently create new content.  The more good content you create, the greater the chance that one of your videos may get a ton of traffic, which will lead people back to your YouTube channel where they will find the gold mine you have left for them.

If you haven’t already created an editorial calendar, start by writing down 50 keywords that your target audience would use to find you, then develop 50 topics based on those keywords. Once you have your 50 topics, commit to shooting, editing and uploading one video every week, on the same day.  If you want to streamline the process, plan to shoot 4-5 videos on a specific day each month (this is especially smart during the summer months when families tend to travel and you may not want to be worrying about producing a video).  Keep the videos to less than 3 minutes.  Shorter is better. Don’t worry about being fancy, just start creating and sharing and you will develop a style that suits you as you go along.

Bottom line: video is where it’s at and if you want to get noticed, you have to be creating videos.  If you can make them social, by encouraging sharing and spreading the word in a non-broadcasting, totally engaging way on your own channels, the greater your chance of success.  If you have any questions, thoughts or stories, please leave them in the comments section and have an awesome day!

Are You a Social Junkie? Twitter Success and Your Health

Social networking is exciting and fun.

You can connect with people from all over the world in an instant and if you play your cards right, some of these connections may even turn into clients, business connections or friends.  Lately, I have had the extreme fortune of being able to meet quite a few of my social media friends offline and it truly does feel like meeting up with long lost friends. After tweeting and connecting on Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc for months or years with people from all across the country and around the world, taking it to the phone and meeting in person is a must.  It takes these relationships full circle and allows everyone to expand in new ways, especially when these friendships are based on mutual respect and common goals.

Social networking, when kept in check, can be an awesome way to build your network, get ahead in business and build new friendships based on similar interests.  However, as with anything new and exciting… social media has a dark side.  Have you walked the line between a healthy relationship with Twitter or Facebook and a problem?

Have you noticed lately that you spend way more time on social media than socializing in real life with family, friends or business contacts?  Do you go without showering, eating, working out or leaving your house for days?  Have you fallen into your Hootsuite and feel like you are never going to be able to get out?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone if you have said yes to any of the above, but you are also walking a fine line between healthy and addicted.  Take a moment to watch this video to get some perspective on healthy social networking and to get some tips on discipline and time management.  Remember, it is critical to your success to keep all areas of your life in check.

To be successful and happy, it is essential to know what your end goal is and get clear on your short and long term goals.  This is the only way to stay on track where you are and where you want to be and avoid getting lost along the way.  If you find yourself heading down the wrong path, simply take some time to make sure you have clarity on your purpose and adjust accordingly.  Life is about the relationships we have, the impact we make on those around us and being happy.  If social networking is getting in the way of that, this video will help you to course correct.

How Do You Get Your Mojo Back?

mo·jo/ˈmōˌjō/

Noun:
  1. A magic charm, talisman, or spell.
  2. Magic power.

Whether you are a parent or not, there will be times in your life when your mojo is off.  One of the best ways to get back in touch with what really gets you excited is to have a list of the things that you have loved experiencing throughout your life.

In this episode of Mommy to Mommy TV, Kimberley Clayton Blaine shares what she does to get her mojo back while I talk about how I believe that women (especially women entrepreneurs) need to connect with other women in order to truly feel on top of the world.  Of course it is important to network with men as well, but there is a different connection that women have with one another that I believe empowers us.

Every day, we have the chance to start fresh with new ideas, new inspirations and new experiences.  Every week, we have the potential to do something important with our time, to do something that moves us forward toward our ultimate goals in life.  When our mojo is feeling off, our dreams can seem out of touch, so it is essential to know at least a few things that get us back in touch with our passions.

Where do you get your magic power?

I get in touch with my mojo from things like: the ocean, painting, writing, being with my family and friends, fashion (especially shoes), exploring uncharted territory and from being with people who are following their dreams and passions. I also find that as hard as it is to get myself to the gym, I feel incredibly inspired after a hard work out.

To make sure that my mojo is never too far from reach, I have hired a trainer twice a week to ensure that I get at least two good work outs in.  I get to look at the ocean every day because our home overlooks the Pacific.  I write this blog and engage in social media (and I have a book in the works) that allow me to write regularly.  My family and friends are always at the top of my priority list.  I have partnered with inspiring women in Social Media Girlfriends and in other networking groups to make sure I am surrounded by people who are taking action and living the life they dream of.

And despite all of this, still there are days when my mojo is off.

So, having a list of things that inspire me and committing to grow this list every day is how I keep my  mojo in check.  How about you?  Do you find inspiration in moving your body?  In creating art?  In being with children?  While being in nature?

Where is your mojo?

What is it that gives you such a charge that you feel like you could finally…  write that book, run those laps, speak to that audience, pick up the phone and make that call, or do whatever it is that you know you need to do to live the life you want to live?

Have you made your list yet?  Please leave your thoughts and ideas in the comments and have an inspired day, FULL of mojo! ;)
