3 Social Media Tips for Freelancers #smdayoc

In order for freelance service providers to have a constant stream of clients and revenue, it is essential to have a strategic marketing plan.  One of the most important elements of that marketing plan needs to include social media.

On June 29, I will be speaking on a panel for freelancers at Mashable Social Media Day 2012 and we will be discussing some of the most important elements of a successful social media practice for freelancers.

The video above kicks off the discussion with 3 tips, but I know you have some to add!  So, please share your ideas in the comments below and feel free to ask questions or share stories about what has worked for you on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ or any other social media platform.

Thanks so much and if you are in the Southern California area, I hope to see you at the event on June 29!

Hi Britt, just want to say that you look so natural on video, and it’s certainly a joy to listen to you. I agree that video is probably the best way to earn the trust of your audience. You certainly are excellent at it.

I would like to add as my tip: if you share content with others, make sure that you know what you are talking about. Don’t call yourself a ninja or a guru or even expert. But show people in what you do and in what you share that you undoubtedly know your subject. Plus, ask questions all the time. People love to talk about themselves, and that’s a fantastic way to learn more about other people.

Now, my question for you is, what’s your secret tip to record these incredible videos?

    Take care, Juan :)

Thanks, Juan. Absolutely agree with your tip to make sure that you know what you are talking about on video!

Sounds like such an “of course” idea, but truly a great point. There are a lot of people who can shoot a video after they do some research on a topic, but when it comes to the conversation that takes place in the comments or in person, the depth of “expertise” isn’t as useful as one might expect and therefore, the potential to get hired is reduced.  So, yes!

Create videos based on what you are knowledgeable and passionate about!  Thank you for your contribution, Juan! Take care :)

Gee Britt, enough about me…what do you really think about me?!

LOL…the irony of doing for others and making it about “them” is that YOU win bigger. The same applies to giving of yourself in charity work – you get so much more than you ever expect when you give unselfishly.

As for video, you and I believe strongly in it and, as is evident by this video of yours, you GET the value of editing and text on screen…driving home the message so effectively!

    Well done!
