“My physical appearance at this exact moment could quite possibly convince others that the zombie apocalypse is real.” Tired of the Time Monster stealing away your day with nothing completed – find your balance?
Knowing what is important in your life helps to manage your time and energy leading to a balanced life– KNOW your limits.
Tip: Write down your goals for the day – keep the list to 5-6 items. Anymore and it is not practical and leaves no room to say yes to a surprise (sick kids – that look like zombies, a friend calling for lunch or work emergencies).
Plan for success – Planning helps you to be efficient and a bit less scatter brained (Zombies don’t plan they react)…this holds true even if your entire list says “Play Day”.
It’s also important to have goals for the week, month and year. You don’t want to get to another birthday and realize another year has passed and no progress was made toward your lifelong goals.
Tip: Create a schedule that works for you and your family. We are all different; I put everything on my computer calendar, some friends post theirs to the fridge. Do what works for you – not the Zombie hiding inside you!
You don’t want to have to use the dog ate my homework excuse for things you could not get completed. Nor do you want your children disappointed, work colleagues upset or be denied “ME” time.
A written schedule also allows for you to see where you truly spend your time and how to make changes to allow more time for the things you want to do.
Tip: Look back, do you have a healthy balance that is in line with your goals? If you are stressed and have the wide eyed Zombie look and feel like something has taken you over….ask yourself “am I doing what is good for me, do my actions follow my goals”?
Tip: Learn to say NO. Boundaries are important. Outside my family and full time job – for many years I was a volunteer for large Non-profit and worked crazy hours for their fundraising efforts. I had to cut back and realized this overwork was not in line with my goals.
Burnout is very real and happens when we are over scheduled and have no balance. I used to live and die by my watch – even on vacation. This drove everyone (including me) crazy and I was in too much of a hurry to see the beauty right in front of my eyes.
Tip: Learn to live in the moment and enjoy the balance you create!
It’s ok to change plans on the fly and live in the moment! Allow yourself to enjoy the change instead of it managing you!
Remember establish goals, create schedules, find balance, say no and live in the moment. You might even come away thinking your Zombie days are behind you and there is no such thing as the Time Monster!
