How to Be a “Live Your Dreams” Role Model #worksmart

A quick conversation about why being conscious of your role model status, actively pursuing goals and following your dreams will make the world a better place.

“As a parent, I have a job as a role model to my children, and by extension, to other young people.”
- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

If we want to evolve as a species, the world requires role models to inspire greatness in every generation.

But this topic is not addressed nearly as often as needed.

So, let’s talk about it. Shall we?

You are a role model, if you are a leader in any way.

You can lead with grace and forward movement… or not.

It is your choice.

“I believe in recovery, and I believe that as a role model I have the responsibility to let young people know that you can make a mistake and come back from it.”

- Ann Richards

Maybe you are reading this post because it is time for you to step into your role model shoes and walk the talk.

We all know that children do as we do, not as we say.  Right?

So what are your thoughts on the topic?

Are you pursuing your dreams with the awareness that you are a role model?

Does that inspire you to push yourself?

What insight can you offer on this topic of role models?

Did you have a great role model who made such an impact on your life that you are still feeling inspired today?

Let’s talk in the comments. :)

I totally agree. In 2001 I read “the students are watching” by Ted and Nancy Sizer and it changed my life. I suggest reading it to all educators. Great reminder about how we role model in EVERYTHING we do – good or bad. We have a huge responsibility. We must remember that.

Yes, thank you Shannan and thanks for the resource!  Role modeling is absolutely critical to inspire a stronger, wiser next generation and greatness in others.
