Leadership 101: Are You Shining?

Has anyone ever asked you that before?

Really… Are you shining?

When you shine, it means that you are living your best life and you are living by principles that allow you to lead the way for others to shine.

To be more specific, I have outlined below some simple but profound principles to live by if you want to shine…

S - SELF

H- HEALTH

I- INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

N- NET GAIN

E- EVOLUTION

SELF- How well do you know your SELF?  Do you know what your personal values are?  Can you list them right now?  If so, great!  If not, simply decide what your top values are and choose to live by them.

Next, do you know what your goals are this year… for the next 3-5 years?  No?  Take 15 minutes and list them out.

Have you thought about what do you want to achieve in this lifetime and created a plan to reach your dreams?  What inspires you to be the best you can be and are you actively seeking those things out?

By taking the time to know yourself inside and out, backwards and forwards and upside down, you give yourself the gift of clarity, confidence and courage.

HEALTH - To lead others in a way that is meaningful, we need to be a healthy example of what others want to be and WHO we want to be. This includes mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health and it also means that if you want to lead others to be the best they can be, you need to be functioning from an optimal level of health.

If you look at your daily schedule, are you incorporating nutrition, fitness, vitamin supplementation, meditation/prayer, inspiration, health goal setting etc into your activities? Do you have a support team to help encourage and empower you to continue living a healthy lifestyle?  If not, it’s time to find your dream team!

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS – Are you helping others to get what they want out of life?  One of the most important skills we can develop in our lives is effectively connecting and interacting with others.

When it comes to your interpersonal relationships, are you clear on your goals?  Do you engage in goal setting discussions with your partner, your children and other loved ones?  Do you have a system for leading your business and home team members based on their goals and values?  Do you have a support system to help you navigate your interpersonal relationships in a way that helps you reach your true potential while encouraging your loved ones to do the same?

Your interpersonal relationships are a direct reflection of your relationship with yourself, so pay close attention to how the world receives you and make adjustments as necessary to move past broken patterns and continue moving forward toward exactly WHO you want to be in every moment.

NET GAIN – How much money do you want to make each month and more importantly WHY?  Do you want to buy a new home?  A new car?  Just pay the bills?  Why do you want to make the money that you have outlined in your financial goals?

Do you have systems in place to consistently move consistently toward your financial goals?  If not, what systems can you put into place to create and maintain a budget?  How much of your income do you want to come from active engagement with clients versus passive revenue streams?  Have you created a wealth generation plan?  It’s never too late to start!

Do you have a mentor, coach or role model to support you as you move towards your financial goals?

Financial intelligence, responsibility and education are critical to being an effective leader. Money and financial freedom are part of the world we live in.  If we want to achieve our financial and personal dreams, we must educate ourselves about income streams and combine that education with our goals.

The majority of people need financial role models to help them to learn how be financially responsible  So, if you haven’t done this work already, it’s time.  The world needs you to figure out who inspires you so you can start reaching new heights!

EVOLUTION – If we want to be inspiring leaders, this means that we must always look for opportunities to grow, learn and evolve.  This work is never done.  When we fail, that just means we are one step closer to our next success. By getting in touch with your values, setting goals to use as a compass to measure your success and taking the right action, you will continue to move forward in the direction of your dreams.

Personal growth is the most powerful work of leaders. It gives us a meaningful story to talk about where we came from, where we are, how we got here and where we are going. Sharing your story of overcoming challenges is what inspires others to live their best life.   It is what reminds you of where you have been and all of the work you have done to get to where you are today.

Thank you for reading about the SHINE system that will help you to shine so you can teach others to shine.

One of my core values is integrity, which to me, simply means doing what you say.  If you want to lead others to shine and be the best they can be, then it is time for you to step up and build the foundation of your best you.

So, now I will ask you again…

Are you shining?

I love how you are so holistic with everything you put out there. You can’t grow in a vacuum – you need to be well-rounded and take care of all parts of YOU. Thank you for always communicating it so beautifully.

Sage advice from the quintessential lifestyle entrepreneur. I went to SXSW this weekend, and when I was registering, I just thought “I don’t want to do this.” So instead, I spent the weekend with my girlfriend catching up and doing girlie things. We have to say ‘no’ to things that exhaust us.
