Success Begins With Flossing your Teeth

Yes, you read that right. Success starts with flossing your teeth every single day and moves on to include things like daily meditation, 30-60 minutes of daily exercise, a nutritious diet of at least 5 fruits and veggies every day,  maintaining a positive attitude, etc.  Why?  Success is not just about making money, it is about making a commitment to yourself to live your best life.

“Oh sh*t!  I don’t floss, haven’t read a book in years (I read blogs), don’t even know how to meditate and the last time I ate something green it came out of a wrapper and was later found stuck to my shoe!  Am I destined for failure?”

No, of course not. However, how much success have you achieved so far with your current routine (or lack of one)?  I’m guessing not a ton because you are still reading… (thanks by the way!)

If you take a look at extremely successful people, there are a few common traits you will find. One of them is a personal discipline or success routine. Another one may be a coach or mentor, but this also plays into the role of discipline.

When one submits to the power of accountability that a coach offers, the level of discipline that can be achieved rises to meet agreed upon commitments. Huh? I have no idea what I just said, but just go with me on this…

Discipline sends a message to the universe that you mean business. It also keeps you organized and focused on your goals. Systems are in essence a method of discipline that you use in your business. They set the structure and you follow through for a desired result.

Without systems, things get lost in the shuffle, clients feel neglected and your reputation ultimately suffers.  On the flip side… with systems in place, you are freed to relax into your success on a soul level because you know your bases are covered.  Do you want to send a message that you are ready for “success”?  Systems are a major part of the discipline that is necessary to achieve your biggest dreams!

But do we have to do all of these things (flossing, meditating, reading, eating healthy) every single day to be successful?

Yup, pretty much.

Listen, you know deep down that you want to be doing these things (and more… like reading a book a week, paying off your student loans, apologizing when you make a mistake, staying on top of your expenses, etc) so what is stopping you?

How many times have you started and stopped these behaviors?  How many times and how often have you followed through with any of them?  Or are you like I used to be… where you commit to doing these little routines, which lasts for about 2 weeks before you start rationalizing with yourself to do it later (translation: never) and feeling guilty that you dropped the ball?  I’s a vicious cycle, right?

You know what it is? You aren’t bad or lazy or any of that.  You simply haven’t made the commitment to yourself yet to do it forever.  And until you do, you won’t feel like you are in control of achieving your own success.

“We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act, but a habit.”

— Aristotle

The person who takes the time each and every day to floss her teeth, exercise, meditate and write in her journal is not only much less likely to get cavities, but she is much more likely to make choices that will move her forward in the direction of her goals.  Make sense?  She is also much more likely to be prepared to step into bigger shoes when the opportunity presents itself.

So, if you want to see positive results in your own life, start by injecting a standard success routine into your schedule and commit to doing it forever. Take it one day at a time, but don’t give yourself the out.  Step up and look at it as your commit to yourself and your dreams.  You check your email every day, right?  You answer the phone when it rings, right?  Shift your thinking so that you just do these things automatically each and every day.

Bottom line: No one can achieve success overnight.  Anything we want to be great at takes practice.

If you don’t take care of the little things by putting a system (a consistent well thought out routine) in place, you may find yourself with a big fat root canal.  This simply would be NO fun.

You have nothing to lose by committing to your own success and amazing things to gain by making this simple choice. Especially if you also include elements like daily inspiration, one on one time with each family member, time to celebrate your successes and time to catch up with your friends. I mean, if you could create a schedule like this, how would your day to day life feel? Pretty freaking good, huh?

Exactly my point.
So, go floss you teeth, comment below with your success routine, write something good in that gratitude journal and make sure to take your vitamins while you’re at it. :)

“If we don’t discipline ourselves, the world will do it for us.”

LOL – I literally said this exact thing to Dave a few months ago. The secret of success is to floss everyday. We were cracking up about it.

I also rinse my mouth with a little hydrogen peroxide and it keeps my teeth white. the dentist won't tell you, but that is what is used in teeth whiteners.
